So, it’s not so much historical, but it sort of IS in its own way.
Every year the White House for the Holidays, does an all out spectacular from decorations to food (for obvious reasons). HGTV did a one hour show show casing the details of the Holiday, the staff and hundreds of volunteers, as they prepare for the Holiday seasons.
One of the more culinary tidbits is the years Gingerbread Houses that they present and put on display. It’s a pretty impressive piece of chocolate (as far as I can tell, it looks to be mostly white chocolate with gingerbread as the under structure) that ways nearly 400 pounds.
The picture really doesn’t do the piece justice and I would suggest watching the show if you can catch it.
They also go behind the scenes, showing the kitchen, many cookies (and how they decorate in the process sort of as an after thought) and discuss some culinary tidbits here and there.
Over here is the HGTV website with some more photos if you’d like to take a peek.
Here is actually the 2008 version of the chocolate White House…it was located in the State Room, featured a drum and fife band as well as former first pets Barney, Miss Beazley and Kitty in a rooftop sleigh. Christmas 2008
Both look very nummy. I wonder what happens to them after the holidays?
